Indonesia is a maritime state that consist of more than 17,000 islands. It has also various social culture, tradition, and religion. It has many kinds of plant and animal too. One of them is Rafflesia Arnoldii. Rafflesia Arnoldii is a member of Genus Rafflesia. It is endemic in the rainforest of Borneo and Sumatera. But, we can find the such flower in Bogor Botanical Garden in West Java province.
Rafflesia Arnoldii is a parasitic plant. It has no roots or leaves and most of the time unobserved inside the woody stems and roots of it's host. Rafflesia Arnoldii only become visible when it develop into the large.
Rafflesia was found in Indonesia's rainforest by Indonesian guide that worked for Dr. Joseph Arnold in 1818. and it was named based on the name of Thomas Stamford Raffless, the leader of such expedition.
Rafflesia Arnoldii is an unusual flower plant. It flower size is very big. It is up to one meter in diameter, and it's weight up to 11 kilograms. The smell of flower generally is good. But Rafflesia Arnoldii has not good smell, the smell is very bad and stinky. Rafflesia Arnoldii flowering only one times for 10 years.As mentioned above, Rafflesia arnoldii is only flowering one times for 10 years. When Rafflesia Arnoldii is flowering, it produce not good smell that attrack thousands flies, especially green flies. When the flies perch on the flower, they are trapped and eventually death due to chemistry matter produce by the flower. A lot of number of flies cause the middle part of the flower bocome green.
